VoiceBuntu version 1.09 comes with various new features, - some of them as being considered 'mature' and some of them with pilot status, while again increasing overall and longterm stability of the system. Please note that current version still uses VoiceOne version 0.5. Right after this release we will start working on integrating the new VoiceOne version 0.6 plus othe features planed.
In detail the following new features have been implemented in VoiceBuntu 1.09:
hylafax / iaxmodem / avantfax
VoiceBuntu now has implemented 2 IAX faxmodems. To connect them you have to add two IAX extension in voiceone. One with user: 999990 / password: iaxmodem0 and the other with 999991 / iaxmodem1. hylafax then plays the backend faxsoftware for spooling etc while avantfax builds the webbased frontend to send and receive faxes for any user. A new tab has been added within VoiceOne called 'fax' (wat else...:-). Login / Password for both admin and user is 'admin' / 'voicebuntu'.
remote syslog through netconsole
Since version 1.09 you are able to send your syslog output through netconsole to a remote server on the same network. All you have to do is to add syslog=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to the command line at boot time (cheat codes) whereas xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the address of you server you want syslog to connect to.
On the receiving side you have to listen to port 514 (i.e. 'nc -l -p 514 -u' ) then start and after a while you will see the output of the boot process. Please note that during the boot process the output stream while stop once and after some time will start again with no further interrupt.
This is because network will restart at boot time meaning that during this short period no syslog can be seen.
new cheat codes
Since version 1.05 various new cheat codes (boot command line strings) have been introduced. The codes are:
New statistics of operation
Since version 1.05 a new extensive statistics module has been added. If you loginto voiceone as an administrator you now can see a new tab called 'statistics' showing all long term stats of the system. In combination with the 'mailto' cheat code (see cheat codes below) of you run out of disk
space or if your trunks are down you will get an email warning immediatly.
persistent / economic
persistent will keep all your settings of a session permanent. If you use 'economic' at boot time only the database of voiceone and some other minor things will be kept permanent. As such you are more flexible for any update, need less permanent disk space while still keep all major PBX settings. Test it and you will see that it is a nice feature.
mailpwd
VoiceBuntu now has two possibilities to start either you use the 'old' cheat code parameter 'mypwd=' to specify a particular password to login with or you simply define 'mailpwd' in combination with 'mailto' (see below) to get the emaild initial random root password to you by email. You then can loginto the system and change the password to what ever is conveient to you or keep the random password string for any future login. The random password is changed everytime you boot or reboot.
mailto=you@yourhome
'mailto' is used by various services now (i.e. see also statistics above). It defines where to mail certain events or informations to. This may be handy to keep track of what is going on on your VoiceBuntu box any time.
nolog
Our long term test have shown that with the current VoiceBuntu system a lot of logging information is being produced. This is a potential thread if you want to run VoiceBuntu on small devices with limited amount of memory. Thus we have intrduced 'nolog' cheat code forcing voicebuntu to send all major logging to /dev/null. Please note that if you use 'syslog' in combination with nolog you still have the possibility to 'live' follow any syslog logging
message remote.
That's it for the moment.
We will start developing VoiceBuntu version 1.1 now. This version will include some additional nice features as well as the new VoiceOne Web interface.
Looking forward to seeing you soon again ;-)
Your VoiceOne / VoiceBuntu team!
